Our grass straw business was founded in San Francisco, California with the goal of making a positive impact on the environment. Plastic pollution is a major problem, with 8 million tons of plastic entering the oceans each year and taking 100-200 years to break down. If current trends continue, there will be more microplastics in the ocean than fish by 2050. In addition to the harm this causes to marine life, plastic straws and other disposable plastics are often used in the food and beverage industry, contributing to the problem.
During a trip to Southeast Asia, we discovered an alternative to plastic straws that were being used by local businesses: natural and compostable grass straws that were also lightweight, tasteless, and didn't become soggy like paper straws. Impressed by the manufacturing process and the dedication of the workers, we decided to bring this eco-friendly option to the United States and beyond.
